Golo Ahlenstiel

Professor Golo Ahlenstiel is Chair of Medicine at Blacktown Clinical School, Western Sydney University, and Clinical Network Director for Specialty Medicine in Western Sydney Local Health District.
After completing his medical degree and MD/PhD at the University of Bonn in Germany, Golo Ahlenstiel received research fellowships from the National Institutes of Health (NIH, USA) and the German Research Foundation to pursue liver immunology research at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA in 2004. In 2009 Golo Ahlenstiel moved to Sydney where he completed basic physician and advanced training in Gastroenterology/Hepatology in WSLHD in 2013. In 2014 he was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and full time staff specialist in Gastroenterology/Hepatology at Westmead Hospital. In 2017, he moved to Blacktown-Mount Druitt Hospital as Chair of Medicine.
He is an academic hepatologist with over 7000 career citations. He is Faculty at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research, and member of the Liver Faculty Executive of GESA, and the TRIPLE III Executive of SPHERE / Maridulu Budyari Gumal. He leads active translational research programs in liver immunology at the Westmead Institute, as well as metabolic disease., liver cirrhosis and immunotherapy of cancer at Blacktown Clinical School.
