Dr. Carrington obtained her Ph.D. at Iowa State University in the Immunobiology Department, and performed her postdoctoral studies in the departments of Immunology and Microbiology at Duke University and the University of North Carolina. Prior to her current appointment, she was a faculty member in the Immunology Department at Duke University. She is currently the Director of the Basic Sciences Program, Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. In this capacity, she is responsible for the scientific oversight and mentoring of approximately 50 staff members. She is also a Principal Investigator within the Laboratory of Integrative Cancer Immunology at the National Cancer Institute, a Visiting Professor at Harvard University, and a Steering Committee Member of the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard. The main goal of her laboratory is to understand the genetic basis for resistance or susceptibility to human disease conferred by polymorphic immune response loci and to determine the functional basis for the genetic associations using molecular and cellular biological approaches. She is a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.
